BRIEF OVERVIEW: During Grandma Lena’s harvest, she
struggles to get her turnip from the ground. The dog, Uncle Izzy, and
Grandpa all help, but they were all unsuccessful. Only when Baby Pearl helps
does the turnip get harvested. After their long bout, they all enjoy the
turnip for dinner with their neighborhood.
INTEGRATED ACTIVITY: Students will sequence the events in the
book: planting of the turnip, harvesting of the turnip, cooking of the turnip, and
finally eating the turnip. They will also draw a picture to correspond
with each step.
