Welcome to: A Book or Two: Children's Literature Reviews, a blog site that offers information on new, classic, and favorite children's literature, reviewed by university professors, classroom teachers, librarians, and those studying to become teachers. We hope you will find "just the right book" to share with others. Our goal is to keep the site updated with information about children's authors, book awards, and new releases. Each entry will include the book cover picture, a brief overview, bibliographic information, and suggested uses for families, librarians, and teachers. Grandma Lena's Big Ol' Turnip

BRIEF OVERVIEW: During Grandma Lena’s harvest, she struggles to get her turnip from the ground.  The dog, Uncle Izzy, and Grandpa all help, but they were all unsuccessful. Only when Baby Pearl helps does the turnip get harvested. After their long bout, they all enjoy the turnip for dinner with their neighborhood.
INTEGRATED ACTIVITY: Students will sequence the events in the book: planting of the turnip, harvesting of the turnip, cooking of the turnip, and finally eating the turnip.  They will also draw a picture to correspond with each step.
