We hope you will find "just the right book" to share with others. Our goal is to keep the site updated with information about children's authors, book awards, and new releases. Each entry will include the book cover picture, a brief overview, bibliographic information, and suggested uses for families, librarians, and teachers. Big Black Bear

BRIEF OVERVIEW: A bear barges into a girl’s house. He is rude and does not listen. Then bear’s parent comes in and stops the madness.
INTEGRATED ACTIVITY: 
FINE ARTS: Draw the girls house or give students a template or blue print of the house. Have them draw different features in the girls house, such as the bear, the girl, couches, and chairs. Give them labels to mark their items for the house.
ENGLISH: Write all the words that you can think of that start with the letter B. Give every student a different letter and have them come up with a three word title for a book. The catch is they must make every word begin with their letter.
SCIENCE: Begin a lesson about bears and their natural habitat. What they need to survive and how they are needed in the environment. Play the live web cam for black bears at the zoo. www.bear.org/website/live-cameras/holly-bears-den-cam-live.html

The Rainbow Fish

TITLE:  The Rainbow Fish

GENRE: Fiction/ Picture Books                 
READING LEVEL: Grade 3
BRIEF OVERVIEW: Rainbow Fish is exceptionally beautiful. However, he is also vain, which, in turn, makes him a very unhappy fish. In order to become happy, he is advised by the wise Octopus to give away his shiny scales. At first, Rainbow Fish says he cannot do such a thing, but in the end offers one to each fish trying to befriend him. He became a very happy fish.
INTEGRATED ACTIVITY: Have a pre-cut construction paper fish, each with multiple scales drawn on. Have the children color the fish any way they want, then allow them to apply glue and glitter (with help from the teacher) to ONE scale.

I Spy Fly Guy!

BRIEF OVERVIEW: Fly Guy and Buzz are the best of friends. One of their favorite past times is playing hide and seek. Trouble occurs when Fly Guy, hiding in the garbage can as usual, is taken away by the garbage man. Buzz goes on a quest to find his friend and is reunited with his faithful fly in the end.
INTEGRATED ACTIVITY: The teacher can set small, plastic flies around the room. The children will use plastic magnifying glasses to go on a hunt to see if they can spy Fly Guy as well.

Pigs Can't Fly

INTEGRATED ACTIVITY: Students will be given a pre-cut pig template (made from construction paper). They will decorate it as one of the animals Pig pretended to be in the story.
