Welcome to: A Book or Two: Children's Literature Reviews, a blog site that offers information on new, classic, and favorite children's literature, reviewed by university professors, classroom teachers, librarians, and those studying to become teachers. We hope you will find "just the right book" to share with others. Our goal is to keep the site updated with information about children's authors, book awards, and new releases. Each entry will include the book cover picture, a brief overview, bibliographic information, and suggested uses for families, librarians, and teachers. We will categorize books in several different ways, to facilitate searching.

Halloween Faces

GENRE: Children’s Toy Book      READING LEVEL: Ages 3-6
BRIEF OVERVIEW: This is a great example of a toy book. There are fun masks to try on a girl and boy character to show the spirit of Halloween to the youngest readers. Toddlers can also pretend carving their own jack-o’-lantern by flipping the pages to change the pumpkins face.
INTEGRATED ACTIVITY: The teacher will let each child have the opportunity to create their own pumpkin using paint. They will paint their own pumpkin and the teacher will paint their hands to make the leaves over their pumpkin. The teacher will then let the students make their own masks.

Night-Time Numbers: A Scary Counting Book

GENRE: Nonfiction/Informational     READING LEVEL:  Kindergarten
BRIEF OVERVIEW:  This book is a counting book to ten. The story follows a spooky theme. The story uses scary numbers and objects. At the story’s end, the angels keep you safe and sound.
INTEGRATED ACTIVITY: Students will count the number of objects seen upon the pages of the book, while reading. Students will be given a sheet with names of objects found within the book and will be asked to draw/color pictures of the objects.
