INTEGRATED ACTIVITY:

Science project: tornado in a bottle

·        You will need - 2 empty two liter bottles (with caps), water, food coloring or glitter (optional), drill, silicone caulking, duct tape.

With one hand holding the bottles by the connector area and the other supporting the full bottle, drain one bottle into the other, swishing in a circular motion.

BRIEF OVERVIEW:  All of the farm animals try to help Titus the goat pull his bad tooth.  Titus has a scare when he learns the vet may pull his tooth.

INTEGRATED ACTIVITY:  Discuss dental hygeine with students.  Experiment using eggs, water, milk, cola, and grape juice.  Soak an egg in each of these liquids for a few hours.  Students will brush the eggs with toothpaste and a toothebrush .   Students will journal their predictions, the outcomes, and their conclusions.

Overview: This is a picture book that explains the process of planting and caring for a garden, picking, washing, and cooking vegetables for vegetable soup. 

Activity: This activity will be a part of our Family and Giving Thanks unit. I will read this story to the students as a way to develop their prior knowledge of how vegetables are grown and how they end up in the grocery store. Students will brainstorm ingredients we will need in order to make our soup. The students will participate in washing, cutting, and cooking the vegetables for our soup. We will weigh and measure utensils, cookware, and veggies. They will also compare things by size and shape. We will keep a record of changes the students notice as the soup cooks. Then we will eat our soup together with invited guests, and family.
