Welcome to: A Book or Two: Children's Literature Reviews, a blog site that offers information on new, classic, and favorite children's literature, reviewed by university professors, classroom teachers, librarians, and those studying to become teachers. We hope you will find "just the right book" to share with others. Our goal is to keep the site updated with information about children's authors, book awards, and new releases. Each entry will include the book cover picture, a brief overview, bibliographic information, and suggested uses for families, librarians, and teachers. We will categorize books in several different ways, to facilitate searching.

BRIEF OVERVIEWCaldecott Award winning book, “The Lion and The Mouse” is a wordless picture book of the struggle of the two characters. Although they seem to fight, they both need each other in the end for survival. A true story of how kindness can shine through pure darkness. The pictures are beautifully illustrated, with almost realistic features to them.
INTEGRATED ACTIVITY: As a whole group, present the book “The Lion and the Mouse.” After the pictures are shown, students will be put into small groups and each given printed out pictures from the book, and well as the words, “First, Last, and Next,” written on notecards. Students are to place pictures according to the sequence of events that occurred in the book under the categories of first, next, and last. After all students have completed the hands on activity, each group will present either the First, Next, or Last (based on first come first serve.) They are to retell the events that happened in their certain allotted time (first, next or last), provide the setting, their characters, and a brief explanation of what is going on at this point of the story. As a closure with the class, discuss what they feel happened in the story.
