Welcome to: A Book or Two: Children's Literature Reviews, a blog site that offers information on new, classic, and favorite children's literature, reviewed by university professors, classroom teachers, librarians, and those studying to become teachers. We hope you will find "just the right book" to share with others. Our goal is to keep the site updated with information about children's authors, book awards, and new releases. Each entry will include the book cover picture, a brief overview, bibliographic information, and suggested uses for families, librarians, and teachers. We will categorize books in several different ways, to facilitate searching.

You're Mean Lily Jean

AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR: Frieda Wishinsky/Kady MacDonald Denton
PUBLISHER:  Albert Whitman & Company      PUBLICATION DATE: 2011
AWARDS:  First and Best, Toronto Public Libraries
GENRE: Realistic Fiction    READING LEVEL: PreK-3
BRIEF OVERVIEW: Lily Jean moves beside Carly and Sandy, sisters. Originally the sisters were happy but then Lily Jean started bossing Carly around. Sandy and Carly get tired of Lily Jean bossing them around, and the girls get the courage to stand up to her in a tactful manner.  The balance of power is now equal and the girls have an equal friendship, as they should.
INTEGRATED ACTIVITY: Children will learn what to do if they see a student being bullied using the Paper bully (adapted from Pinterest http://www.pinterest.com/pin/383509724489441417/)
Children crumple up a piece of paper and step on it without ripping it. They then uncrumple the paper and tell it that they’re sorry and try to straighten it out.  They can’t. They see they damage can’t be undone from hurtful things. They will then share with the class why bulling is bad.
