Brief Overview: Perico, a bilingual bird struggles to find a new home outside of the pet store since he can’t speak English very well. Finally, Perico finds a bilingual boy who appreciates Perico’s linguistic diversity. This book includes a Spanish glossary and pronunciation guide. This story would be a great one to share with bilingual students and English Language Learners.
Integrated Activity: Have students create a High Five Graphic Organizer by tracing their hand on a sheet of paper. On each finger, have students write a word they learned from the story. (English speakers should choose Spanish words; however, English Language Learners may choose English words they did not know before reading the story). At the tips of each finger, have the students draw a picture of the words they chose to help them remember their definitions.

- Welcome to: A Book or Two: Children's Literature Reviews, a blog site that offers information on new, classic, and favorite children's literature, reviewed by university professors, classroom teachers, librarians, and those studying to become teachers. We hope you will find "just the right book" to share with others. Our goal is to keep the site updated with information about children's authors, book awards, and new releases. Each entry will include the book cover picture, a brief overview, bibliographic information, and suggested uses for families, librarians, and teachers. We will categorize books in several different ways, to facilitate searching.
