Brief Overview: This book is a great nonfiction piece for learning interesting facts about past presidents. Each President is listed in the back of the book in a sort of Presidential Index which describes the President’s life and time in office. The index starts with George Washington and ends with our 42nd President, William Clinton. The caricature-style illustrations in this book won a Caldecott Medal.
Integrated Activity: Using the trivia from the book, students will pick one President they are most interested in. Students will develop a newspaper article about their President. The newspaper article will include a list of 5-10 interview questions with responses from the President, a picture or illustration of the President, and an interesting, but historically accurate story about the President.
