Welcome to: A Book or Two: Children's Literature Reviews, a blog site that offers information on new, classic, and favorite children's literature, reviewed by university professors, classroom teachers, librarians, and those studying to become teachers. We hope you will find "just the right book" to share with others. Our goal is to keep the site updated with information about children's authors, book awards, and new releases. Each entry will include the book cover picture, a brief overview, bibliographic information, and suggested uses for families, librarians, and teachers. We will categorize books in several different ways, to facilitate searching.

Sleep Like a Tiger

AUTHOR/ILLUSTRATOR: Mary Logue, Pamela Zagarenski
PUBLISHER: HMH Books for Young Readers
PUBLICATION DATE: 2012
AWARDS: 2013 Randolph Caldecott Honor Award
GENRE: Fiction Picture Book   READING LEVEL: 3rd
BRIEF OVERVIEW: The little girl does not want to go to sleep. She told her parents she was not sleepy. Her parents told her that she could stay awake as long as she got ready for bed. She climbed into bed and asked her parents if everything went to sleep…whales, snails, and bears? Her parents explained to her that they did. Then the little girl told them that the tiger sleeps to stay strong. After that, she slept all through the night just like the animals she had asked about.
INTEGRATED ACTIVITY: Students will be placed in groups. Each student will reach their own conclusions then share with the rest of the group. Students will identify which continent or ocean each animal in the book lives in. Students will draw a picture of the continent or ocean that the animals live in then draw the animals accordingly.
