This
is a great book about a Japanese cat who want to learn the meaning of his name
“Wabi Sabi” The cat goes on a journey across Japan to find out what his name
means. He discovers that Wabi Sabi means, “simple things are beautiful”.
Integrated Idea:
This
book has many haikus and haibun poetry through the story. At the end of the
book the author translates several of the Japanese haikus that were written
throughout the story. Have the class learn the patterns of Haiku poems and ask
them to write their own.
