BRIEF OVERVIEW: This book tells the story of Rani, a village girl in India who is offered a reward for a good deed by the greedy raja. She asks only for a single grain of rice, doubled every day for 30 days. The raja eagerly agrees to such a small request, but he is in for a surprise when the 30 days are up.
INTEGRATED ACTIVITY: Ask the students if they would prefer to have one penny doubled every day for a week or $1. Have them figure out how much they would have if they chose to have the penny doubled. This can also be extended to include different monetary amounts or different lengths of time.
