BRIEF OVERVIEW:
The infectious rhythm of The Song of Hiawatha will draw any reader to the
shores of Gitchee Gumee. Read about the young brave with the magic moccasins,
who talks with animals and uses his supernatural gifts to bring peace and
enlightenment to his people.
INTEGRATED ACTIVITY: Students will be given a lesson about poems that are stories. After
reading the book together, students will pick out three different parts of
Hiawathas life to describe and make a watercolor out of. The directions for the
activity will be given and the book will be reread before starting the
activity.
