Welcome to: A Book or Two: Children's Literature Reviews, a blog site that offers information on new, classic, and favorite children's literature, reviewed by university professors, classroom teachers, librarians, and those studying to become teachers. We hope you will find "just the right book" to share with others. Our goal is to keep the site updated with information about children's authors, book awards, and new releases. Each entry will include the book cover picture, a brief overview, bibliographic information, and suggested uses for families, librarians, and teachers. We will categorize books in several different ways, to facilitate searching.

Crow Boy

Title: Crow Boy
Author/ Illustrator: Taro Yashima
Publisher: Puffin
Publication Date: 1976
Genre: Fiction (Realistic)
Reading Level: 3rd-5th grade
Brief Overview: There was a boy who was the outcast of his class. He never socialized with anyone and found the smallest things fascinating. Until his teacher in 6th grade started paying him attention and getting to know him. He participated in a talent show and did calls of crows. Everyone then knew how far away he lived from the school. He would travel hours just to get there and everyone started to appreciate him. They felt bad for making fun of him and he was the only one to graduate high school with perfect attendance.
Integrated Idea: Blow up a beach ball and write a variety of “get to know” questions on it and have the students pass the ball around. When a student catches the ball, have them read the question that their right hand is on out loud and answer it for everyone to hear. Then pass the ball to the next person. Stress the importance of not judging a book by its cover and the importance of getting to know their classmates.
